KL Rahul Likes Playing As A Wicket-keeper For India In ODIs

The Indian wicket-keeper batter, KL Rahul opined that he has been keeping wickets for a couple of years now and he is leaving no stone unturned in his preparations as a specialist wicket-keeper in ODIs. He has donned the gloves for India in the ODIs since 2020 and ever since, he has camoe up with fine performances with the gloves and with the bat at No.5. Rahul played a match-winning knock of 64* to help India take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ODi series against Sri Lankan by winning the seocn game by 4 wickets in Kolkata.

As per the quotes in India Today, during the post-match presentation, KL Rahul said, “Obviously, I have done this for a couple of years now. 2019, 2020,21 I have done this. Have time to settle into this room. I have tried to settle into this. When you have the backing of a captain and team, it helps you to bring your focus to doing good for your country.”

He further added, “It keeps me on my toes and helps me to take on challenges. I like challenges. I have not done it for so long. But doing it for a while. I try to manage my fitness and my body. I am doing a lot of work on batting and wicketkeeping for this. As it needs special training.”

KL Rahul opined that hed loves batting at No.5 as it gives him some time to relax after keeping wickets and he doesn’t need to hurry once again pad-up and get ready.

Elaborating the same, KL Rahul said, “Any role that helps my team to win matches is my comfort zone. Playing is more important. Since I started playing in the India team, I have been thinking about it. In my first Test match, I batted at no. 6. At the World Cup. I played at no. 5 and 4. I really enjoyed the different challenges.”

He further explained, “I try to perform well under pressure and it helps me under everyone’s captaincy, either Virat or Rohit. I enjoyed every role. It helps me understand myself and my batting. To come out of your comfort zone, it needs to be good. In sports, you need to be flexible and ready for all challenges. Whatever the team wants will go with that.”

KL Rahul talked about the his match-winning knock against Sri Lanka in the second ODI, saying that he had the experience of batting with the tail and that helped him in the Kolkata game.

The wicket-keeper batter explained, “Every game is different. We are always playing different formats. Different games. We keep on adapting. Getting partnerships with the middle or lower order. I had gone through very few times I batted with tails. It’s important to understand every situation and the partners. We need to understand to do partnerships.”
