Indian opener KL Rahul opened up emotionally about the joys and struggles of fatherhood during the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, Manchester. Speaking to Cheteshwar Pujara on Sony Sports, Rahul shared the deeply personal experience of leaving behind his newborn daughter, Evaarah, to fulfil national duties, a decision that left a profound mark on him.

Rahul and his wife, Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty, welcomed their daughter on March 24, 2025, during the IPL season. Despite the milestone moment, Rahul returned to action just two days later, joining Delhi Capitals and later travelling to England for the high-stakes five-Test series.

The couple had a heartfelt conversation before he departed, one that involved balancing professional commitments with the emotional weight of leaving his young family behind. “It’s the happiest time in my life,” KL Rahul said. “I’ve always wanted to be a father. She’s brought so much joy to our family. She’s a beautiful little girl, and everything feels different in the best way.”

The 32-year-old expressed heartfelt gratitude toward Athiya and his family, acknowledging their understanding of his demanding schedule and their unwavering support during his time away. “They’ve been incredible. They knew how important this tour was for me, and they stood by me, even though it was really difficult to be away from my daughter,” he shared.

Rahul’s performances in England have reflected his inner drive. Amassing 421 runs in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, including two centuries, he’s played a vital role in India’s campaign. Yet, behind the composed exterior lies a father longing for moments missed.

“I did a bit of father duties before I left,” he recalled. “But soon after she was born, I had to play in the IPL. I tried to use whatever breaks I got to rush home. Leaving again for the India A game and knowing I wouldn’t see her for two more months was one of the hardest decisions I’ve made.”

To stay connected, Rahul relies on a baby monitor and regular photo updates. “I’m always on the baby cam,” he smiled. “Just making sure I don’t miss a thing. Every day away feels like I’m missing something special.” It’s a reminder that while cricketers shine on the big stage, their lives off the field are filled with quiet sacrifices and deep emotional battles.
