KL Rahul, the star Indian wicketkeeper-batter, is expected to miss a couple of IPL 2025 matches for Delhi Capitals as he prepares to welcome his first child. According to reports, the 32-year-old is likely to take a short break from the tournament to be with his wife during the birth, with his availability dependent on the due date.

Having previously represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants, Rahul was a major signing for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 mega auction at INR 14 crore. With an impressive IPL record of 4683 runs in 132 matches, including four centuries and 37 fifties, he remains one of the league’s most consistent performers.

Despite finishing as Lucknow Super Giants’ highest run-scorer in IPL 2024, Rahul was surprisingly not retained ahead of the mega auction. Delhi Capitals’ captaincy situation remains a key talking point, especially after the franchise opted not to retain Rishabh Pant. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter, who led DC in IPL 2024, was acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for a record-breaking INR 27 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. LSG subsequently named him their captain for the 2025 season.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are set to kick off their preparations with a short training and simulation camp in Delhi before heading to Visakhapatnam for their opening two matches. Key players such as Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, Jake Fraser-McGurk, and Mitchell Starc are scheduled to join the squad on March 17 and 18.
In another setback for DC, England batter Harry Brook has opted out of IPL 2025. Purchased for INR 4 crore at the mega auction, Brook took to X on Sunday to announce that he will be skipping the tournament for the second consecutive year, dealing a blow to Delhi’s batting depth.
