In the ongoing Test series, there have been a plethora of injury concerns for the team ever since the first game. While Mohammed Shami suffered from a wrist fracture while batting in the second innings, Umesh Yadav suffered a calf injury during the second Test. Rohit Sharma missed the entire limited-overs leg, as well as the first couple of Tests before rejoining the side last week, ahead of the match in Sydney.
The injury to Rahul comes as a major blow, as he was expected to make a comeback in the longest format of the game, following a string of low scores from Hanuma Vihari. In the three innings across two Tests so far, Vihari has amassed just 45 runs.
