The camaraderie between Delhi Capitals’ KL Rahul and team mentor Kevin Pietersen continues to deliver golden moments, much to the delight of IPL fans. Known for their witty back-and-forth, the duo once again had everyone in splits—this time with a cheeky jab during Delhi’s practice session ahead of their high-voltage clash against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on April 19.

As the players warmed up and went through their drills, GT skipper Shubman Gill walked over to chat with Pietersen in the nets. In a light-hearted moment, Pietersen jokingly asked Gill if he knew what a mentor does, saying he wasn’t quite sure of his own job description.

KL Rahul, quick on the draw, couldn’t resist the opportunity and fired back with a hilarious remark: “Take a two-week trip to Maldives mid-season!” The joke, of course, referenced Pietersen’s well-publicised break earlier in the tournament.

Pietersen took a short vacation to the Maldives after DC’s convincing win over Chennai Super Kings on April 5. He missed the following game against RCB on April 10 but returned in time for Delhi’s encounter with Mumbai Indians on April 13.

Delhi Capitals’ social media team wasted no time in uploading the funny exchange, and the video quickly went viral. Fans have been loving the duo’s light-hearted banter, with many calling it one of the most entertaining mentor-player dynamics in this IPL season.
This wasn’t a one-off moment either. The duo has been trading jibes throughout the season—Rahul once reminded Pietersen of his “watching paint dry” comment about his batting style, and during Rahul’s birthday celebration, the former England cricketer playfully smashed cake on his face.
