KL Rahul, the dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman for Star India, finds himself on the sidelines for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, commencing on January 11 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Despite not being in the playing squad, Rahul has been making the most of his time away from the field.

Recently, a viral video captured the cricketer at a restaurant, where ardent fans approached him for selfies and even went so far as to bow down and touch his feet, a gesture that Rahul gestured to discourage while obliging their selfie requests.

Rahul had recently showcased his prowess in the two-match Test series against South Africa, contributing significantly with a splendid century in Centurion during the first Test. His innings of 101 runs off 137 balls in challenging conditions played a pivotal role in India posting 245 runs in the first innings.

Despite being absent from T20Is since India’s exit from the T20 World Cup 2022, where his individual performance fell short of expectations, Rahul boasts an impressive record in the shortest format of international cricket.

With 2265 runs from 68 innings at an average of 37.75 and a strike rate of 139.12, including two centuries and 22 fifties, Rahul remains a potent force in T20s. In his absence, Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma are entrusted with the wicketkeeping responsibilities for the upcoming series against Afghanistan, serving as India’s final T20I assignment before the T20 World Cup 2024.
