KL Rahul has come under scrutiny from a BCCI source for his recent social media posts showcasing his practice sessions. The source accuses him of “sending wrong signals” amidst his ongoing quadriceps strain injury. Rahul’s absence from the third Test against England and his social media activity have raised questions about his fitness and commitment.
The Karnataka batter is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, aiming for a return to the playing XI in upcoming Tests. Initially included in the squad pending clearance from the BCCI’s medical team, Rahul’s situation remains uncertain, and his fate for future matches hangs in the balance.

A senior BCCI source expressed concern about KL Rahul’s actions, stating, “If the BCCI’s medical team knew in the first place that Rahul’s quad injury is as serious as it looks, why was he kept in the provisional squad? And why is the player sending wrong signals by posting videos of his batting on Instagram stories.”

The BCCI, in a press release, confirmed Rahul’s unavailability for the third Test in Rajkot, citing progress in his fitness. The statement mentioned that Rahul has reached 90% match fitness and is progressing well under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team.
Devdutt Padikkal, the young left-handed batter from Karnataka, has been named as Rahul’s replacement for the time being. Padikkal showcased his form with a brilliant 151 in his recent Ranji Trophy match, catching the attention of the selectors. His consistent performances include a notable 193 against Punjab in the opening game and a century against Goa.
