Shami’s wife Hasin Jahan filed the cheque bounce case under NI Act after the cricketer had purportedly stopped payment of a cheque which he had given to her for monthly expenses after a marital dispute arose between the two, following which they were residing separately. The CJM had summoned Shami on Wednesday after he had failed to appear on an earlier date in October. But the cricketer was not present in the court on Wednesday as well.

The court said that failure on the part of Shami to appear before the court on the said date may invite issuance of arrest warrant against him.

Shami is likely to play Bengal’s next Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season home match against Kerala in Kolkata from November 20-23. He is also the member of Australia-bound Test squad, Shami will leave for the tour Down Under after playing the Ranji Trophy third round match at the Eden Gardens. Talking about the same, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Sourav Ganguly said, “Shami has expressed his interest to play. If he plays, it’s good for the Bengal side.”
