Indian fast bowler, Mohammed Shami has been going through a rough phase over the past few days. He was accused by Hasin Jahan, his wife, for having extra-marital affairs and having involved in match-fixing scandals. Consequently, his contract has been put on hold by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). To add insult to injury, the pacer’s participation for the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL also seems to be bleak.
Hasin Jahan has also claimed of domestic violence and has registered a case to the Kolkata Police against her husband. Recently, the Kolkata Police approached the BCCI for paddling out Shami’s whereabouts during his last match in South Africa. According to Jahan, Shami went to Dubai from South Africa in order to meet a Pakistani girl. However, Shami has completely denied these accusations by his wife.

As per reports in the Economic Times, the Kolkata Police have sought help from the cricket board as a part of their investigation and in order to cross-check the claims by Shami’s wife. Jahan has also alleged Shami’s family members of giving death threats to her. Meanwhile, Shami has expressed his desolation to the media and claimed to resolve the matter with Hasin.
Shami has been charged under various non-bailable and bailable sections of the IPC, including Section 498A, which deals with cruelty to a woman by her husband or his relatives, Section 307 – attempt to murder, Section 323 – punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 376 – rape, Section 506 – criminal intimidation, Section 328 and Section 34.

Previously, match-fixing scandals and numerous issues have ended careers of several cricketers. The Shami-Jahan story has gone darker with each passing day and it would indeed be interesting to find out the new developments pertaining to the story. Meanwhile, everyone would be hoping for justice to prevail as the police delve deep into the gravity of the matter.
