Officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association met the Karnataka government’s Expert Committee on Friday to provide a detailed update on security and infrastructure upgrades at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 season. The meeting comes after the Karnataka government recently cleared the stadium to host IPL matches again, months after the tragic stampede incident on June 4, 2025, which cast serious doubts over the venue’s future as a major host of cricket.

According to reports, further updates from the KSCA regarding the preparations and compliance measures are expected to be shared on Monday evening. The iconic Bengaluru venue is set to stage the opening match of IPL 2026, where defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face former champions Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28.

KSCA spokesperson Vinay Mruthyunjaya confirmed that officials from both the association and RCB attended the meeting with the Expert Committee. “We wish to inform you that the Expert Committee constituted by the Government of Karnataka held a meeting today with officials of the KSCA and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Karnataka State Cricket Association,” Mruthyunjaya said.

He added that the association presented a comprehensive report on the upgrades being carried out at the stadium.

“During the meeting, KSCA made a detailed presentation on the infrastructural upgradations and safety measures undertaken at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, in line with the recommendations of the Expert Committee that are to be implemented under Phase-I of the compliance framework,” he said.

Apart from the tournament opener, the stadium will also host the popular RCB Unbox event and the IPL 2026 opening ceremony, making it one of the key venues in the tournament’s early stages.

RCB’s first home fixture after the opener will be against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings on April 5. Overall, the Bengaluru franchise will play five home matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium, while two additional home games are scheduled at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur.
