Kuldeep Yadav, the star of India’s resounding victory against arch-rivals Pakistan, couldn’t hide his joy as he reflected on his exceptional five-wicket haul in the thrilling encounter. After the rain-affected clash was rescheduled to the reserve day, India put on a spectacular show, with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s centuries leading the way to a colossal total of 356 runs. Kuldeep then proceeded to dismantle the Pakistan middle-order with his mesmerizing spell, securing a 238-run win.
Speaking with a smile on his face, Kuldeep Yadav shared his emotions about his memorable performance: “Jab retire hounga tab yaad karunga ki Pakistan ke against 5 wicket liye the” (When I retire, I will remember that I took five wickets against Pakistan).
Kuldeep’s exceptional performance was instrumental in India’s success, and he has been India’s leading wicket-taker in ODIs this year. His figures of 5 for 25 in 8 overs against Pakistan showcased his white-ball bowling prowess.
However, Kuldeep’s journey back to the Indian team was not easy. He underwent surgery and spent five months away from the team. During this period, he struggled with doubts and challenges. Kuldeep revealed how he overcame these obstacles and improved his game.
The Chinaman bowler explained, “This has not happened overnight. It was frustrating to be away from the team for five months after surgery. It took time for everything to fall into place. I never wanted to lose my grip and drift. Once the rehabilitation was done, I thought ki kuch karte hain (let’s do something).”
Kuldeep credited his recovery to the guidance of the physio at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Ashish Kaushik, who advised him to minimize the load on his knees. This advice prompted Kuldeep to make adjustments to his speed and rhythm, leading to improvements in his game.
Kuldeep also mentioned changes in his bowling technique, including a straighter run-up, a more aggressive rhythm, and better control over his hand position, all of which contributed to his success.
In conclusion, Kuldeep Yadav’s remarkable journey from injury and doubt to becoming India’s leading wicket-taker in ODIs this year is a testament to his hard work and determination, and his brilliant performance against Pakistan will be remembered as a defining moment in his career.
