Since the 2019 ODI World Cup, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have been India’s dynamic wrist-spinning duo in limited-overs cricket. However, their partnership saw a shift after the semi-final loss against New Zealand, as the team management became reluctant to field both spinners simultaneously, especially with Ravindra Jadeja in the mix.

As the ODI World Cup 2023 approaches, the competition for the spinners’ spot is intensifying, but Kuldeep Yadav sheds light on their camaraderie. In the aftermath of India’s victory in the first ODI against West Indies, Kuldeep Yadav opened up about his equation with Yuzvendra Chahal. He expressed that they maintain a relaxed and supportive relationship, learning from each other along the way.

With team combination playing a crucial role in team selection, Kuldeep acknowledges that both spinners cannot always be featured in the XI together. Despite this, they have accepted the situation and are ready to contribute whenever the team requires their services.

“We’re very relaxed. We know the combination matters a lot. Sometimes he plays, sometimes I play, and our understanding is very good. We’re very normal. He helps me a lot when I play, he tells me what I can do, what I can change. He always wants me to do well,” Kuldeep Yadav shared with ESPNcricinfo.

He further added, “When he plays, I do the same thing so that when he performs, he does well for the team. Maybe this is why the Kul-Cha partnership has worked so well over the years. We support and back each other.”

In the first ODI against the West Indies, Kuldeep Yadav proved his mettle as India’s chief tormentor. Despite being introduced into the attack a bit later, he managed to claim four wickets, conceding a mere six runs in three overs. His exceptional performance led to the West Indies being bundled out for just 114 runs, paving the way for India’s comprehensive five-wicket victory.

Kuldeep Yadav was deservedly honored as the Player of the Match for his outstanding display. As the much-anticipated ODI World Cup approaches in October and November, Kuldeep’s aim will be to maintain his form and secure a permanent spot in the playing XI, solidifying his place as one of India’s key bowlers.
