Musheer’s innings were watchful to start with, because wickets fell around him in plenty early in Day 1. The way he showed maturity beyond years, slowly getting into a rhythm and anchoring India B’s innings with remarkable poise, was really commendable.

The way he could hold the fort while keeping focus and resilience was admirable considering the quality of India A’s bowling attack. This young batter’s partnership with Navdeep Saini turned out to be the game-changer for India B as they fought it out collectively, building an important comeback at a time when India B was tottering at 94/7.

Musheer, resuming on Day 2 at 105, remained unrelenting on the bowlers and went on to score 181. His knock was precise in shot selection, assured in strokes, and that touch of luck, considering DRS bailed him a couple of times.

It was Kuldeep Yadav who finally managed to get rid of the heroic Musheer. A delivery pitched outside off enticed the young batter into an aggressive shot. He top-edged it comfortably to Riyan Parag at deep square leg. Though Musheer fell short of a double century, his 181-run knock is the third-highest individual score by a teenager on Duleep Trophy debut, even better than the great Sachin Tendulkar on his debut in 1991.

The India B, precariously poised on Day 1, finally folded their first innings at 321 courtesy Musheer’s brilliant effort. His knocks have not only sealed his future as one of the rising stars of Indian cricket but also set the benchmark high for youngsters making a name for themselves in the national circuit.
