Kuldeep Yadav is making a strong case for a return to the Indian team after producing a stunning 10-wicket haul for Yorkshire in the County Championship. Despite limited opportunities at the international level recently, the left-arm wrist-spinner continues to make his presence felt with impressive performances in English domestic cricket.
On Thursday, September 10, Kuldeep claimed 10 wickets for 120 runs in Yorkshire’s dominant 106-run victory over Essex at Headingley. He picked up four wickets for 70 runs in the first innings before returning with outstanding figures of six for 50 in the second. The performance also marked his best-ever bowling figures in First-Class cricket.
Headingley offered conditions that heavily favoured spin, with Yorkshire posting 390 in their first innings. Kuldeep Yadav also contributed with the bat, scoring a valuable 36 off 94 deliveries. His bowling then proved decisive as Yorkshire dismissed Essex for 171 and 113 to complete a convincing win. “It was a lovely wicket to bowl on because you don’t have to bowl quick in terms of pace because the wicket already has pace in it,” Kuldeep told Yorkshire Cricket TV.

The spinner explained that the surface allowed him to focus on generating revolutions rather than relying on pace. He also highlighted the major difference between English and Indian conditions, noting that the extra pace at Headingley made it difficult for batters to consistently retreat onto the back foot.

With his latest 10-wicket match haul, Kuldeep has once again reminded the Indian selectors of his quality and could strengthen his case for another opportunity.
