Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis was taken to the hospital after complaining of chest pain on Monday, May 23. However, there have not been any major complications as well. Notably, he was hospitalised after walking off the ground during the second away Test against Bangladesh as well and the player underwent an ECG, which has confirmed that there were no issues in the report, as reported by Cricbuzz.
Just ahead of the lunch on Day 1, the 27-year-old Kusal Mendis bent down on the ground to pick up the ball. While it looked like a niggle at that time, Mendis laid down on the ground soon after holding his chest as well. And, then the physio was called to the ground and after some checkup, he made a cross sign with his arms which stated that he was not fit to continue as well. While the physio asked for the stretcher to carry him out of the field, the batter later signalled that he would walk off. Even, he held his chest throughout and did not take the field after lunch as well.

However, before the incident happened on the ground during the 23rd over of the game, Sri Lanka had the upper hand in the game, picking up five wickets that too inside the first 10 overs of the game. The second Test match’s wicket behaved quite differently than the first Test match where the pace bowlers found a bit of swing in the early overs and put up the pressure on hosts Bangladesh as well. Meanwhile, three of them got out for a duck and were left struggling at 24/5. However, the last match’s heroes, Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das then steadied the ship once again. They scored the centuries and rescue the hosts from a tough position. At the time of writing, Bangladesh are 143/5 in 47 overs.
