Ever since all-rounder Kyle Mayers took a sensational catch, proving his remarkable athleticism, it has been a sensation since the Caribbean Premier League 2024 started. The incident happened during the match between St Kitts, Nevis Patriots, and St. Lucia Kings. Kings’ skipper Faf du Plessis attempted to play the second ball of the fifth over bowled by Anrich Nortje over mid-wicket.

The shot was not perfectly timed, and the ball sailed towards mid-on. Running backwards, Kyle Mayers pulled off a stunner of a catch to dismiss the Kings’ captain when he was just two runs. This was an instant meme, as the quick reflexes and agility of Mayers were widely appreciated on social media.

As far as the game is concerned, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots batted first, where Evin Lewis leaped forward with an unbeaten 100 off 54 deliveries. Kyle Mayers also sparkled with 92 runs from 62 balls. The duo thrust Patriots to a stiff total of 201 runs in three wickets. David Wiese was the only remarkable bowler for St. Lucia Kings, who picked two wickets.

In response, the St. Lucia Kings began on a wobbly note as the openers, Johnson Charles and Faf du Plessis, made just 12 and 2 runs respectively.

Ackeem Auguste contributed only six runs to the score. A stiff middle-order fightback, though, from Bhanuka Rajapaksa with 68* and Tim Seifert chipping in with 64 kept the innings steady. The chase got more heft from David Wiese with 34* runs, as the Kings won by five wickets.
