The excitement for the T20 World Cup 2024 is palpable as cricket fans eagerly await the tournament’s kickoff on June 2 in the USA and the West Indies. Among the most anticipated matches is the clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan, scheduled for June 9 in New York as part of Group A. This showdown promises to be a highlight of the event, drawing global attention. However, discussions surrounding the event have been overshadowed by controversy over the steep ticket prices.
Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize the ICC (International Cricket Council) for what he perceives as prioritizing profits over the promotion of the sport in the USA. Modi expressed shock at the reported price of up to USD 20,000 per seat in the diamond club section for the India-Pakistan clash, arguing that such exorbitant prices detract from the spirit of the game.

“Shocked to learn that @ICC is selling tickets for Diamond Club at $20000 per seat for the #indvspak WC game. The WC in the US is for game expansion & fan engagement, not a means to make profits on gate collections. $2750 for a ticket It’s just #notcricket #intlcouncilofcrooks,” Lalit Modi tweeted.
According to the ICC, ticket prices for the India-Pakistan match range from USD 300 to 10,000, with reports indicating a surge in resale prices as well.
