England player Liam Plunkett last played in an England colour when they played against New Zealand in the ICC World Cup 2019 final at the Lord’s cricket ground. England became the winner where he bagged three wickets in that final. But since then, he hasn’t earned any recall into the team.

Since their world cup win, the veteran has not been included in the limited-overs squads for New Zealand and South Africa tour and currently, he is looking for new opportunities elsewhere as per the reports where he is looking preferably the United States of America, to end his cricketing career as well.

Although Liam Plunkett is still hopeful of his return into the England side, he has already talked to USA Cricket chief executive Iain Higgins as he has planned the final years of his career to play for them, according to a DailyMail report. He has been already staying in the country for the past few years with his American wife of 16 months Emeleah.

According to the ICC eligibility regulations, which were updated in October 2018, a player can change his country to another upon the completion of a three-year sit-out period. This means Liam Plunkett will be eligible to play for the USA on July 14, 2022. With this, he needs to fulfil the nationality qualification criteria by gaining citizenship as well. However, this process takes three years for spouses to get the nationality.

Meanwhile, it is not yet known what ECB’s plans are for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia this October. Plunkett had played in 14 consecutive T20s and was also a member of the team who finished as the runners-up to West Indies in India in 2016 T20 World Cup. However, he has two years left in his Surrey contract as well.
