Bangladesh stand-in captain Litton Das said on Thursday (December 19) that he is ready to lead the team on a long-term basis if offered by the Bangladesh Cricket Board. However, Litton had previously led the team before being removed from his position and was asked again in West Indies in the absence of Najmul Hossain, who is out due to his injury as well. While BCB opted to give the captaincy of the ODI and the Test side to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, it wasn’t the same case in T20Is as the board decided to give Litton a go again and he did well to help the tourists earn 3-0 series sweep over West Indies as well.
“As far as captaincy is concerned, if the BCB asks me to lead then I am ready to do it because there is no reason [not to] and I am enjoying it,” Litton Das told reporters after the win. “I take a lot of decisions on the field from the experience that I have got playing for so long and the skill that the bowlers developed it is easier to run the show on the field. As a captain I never said that you give everything [on the field]. All I said was that they [West Indies] are a better side and on their day they can destroy at their home ground and so the information was like we will go and enjoy the cricket and whatever the result we will take that with a smiling face and we will try to fulfill our responsibility.”
Litton Das also credited the bowling unit for their extraordinary performance and insisted that it is easier for him to lead the side as the bowlers are taking their own responsibility like setting their own field among others.
“Overall if I have to say our bowling attack was outstanding and the way they bowled in three formats, both the pacers and spinners. I was behind the wickets and I was feeling good as every batter was struggling,” he said.

“The thing is that if the bowlers bowl well, behind the wickets it gets easier for me and like I said the bowlers know what kind of field set-up they need so it’s easy for me.
“Look, they are a better side and I would say that and on their home ground they are a good side. But, when five bowlers bowl well and from top to bottom we have a balanced batting unit – I won’t say we have an destructive batting unit but we have a balanced side – and if we can put some runs on the board I feel the bowlers are developing their skill and every match the bowlers took responsibility on their own. They are doing their own field set-up and learning a lot of things and I feel that it is good sign,” he said.
Litton Das also said the same that was said by head coach Phil Simmons before the series-concluding game that they are carrying the confidence that they gained in the ODIs as well. Litton also applauded the newly-appointed head coach for giving value to their experience.
“We really played good cricket in Test and one-day format. Unfortunately we could not win but if you see we did not play badly in one-day cricket. We all had at the back of the mind that we are playing good cricket but not getting the win and I feel that everyone had that belief,” said Litton. “Overall the coaching staff is friendly and the new coach (Phil Simmons) is friendly and the thing that really made me feel good was that he does not put anything on the shoulders of the players. We are playing for a long time and our observation is also important and he takes that [into consideration].”

Litton Das also credited the team’s batting coach Mohammad Salahuddin for the transformation in their batting unit as well.
“Definitely there is some changes (after Salahuddin took over) and overall we played good cricket.. Everyone played with him at domestic cricket or in academy and he knows who can do what and he is giving the guidelines well and that is why players are performing and it’s a positive sign that we can talk freely and he can point out where we are making mistakes. As far as batting is concerned I am trying and as a batter probably had a low phase in three formats. But sir is helping a lot and the thing is every player is free with him and he knows us from our childhood and these things helps us at the back of the mind and while talking with sir the cricketing issues are resolved and hopefully I’ll get over the lean patch soon,” Litton Das concluded.
