Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir has opened up on the recent tragedy that happened during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) roadshow in Bengaluru following their maiden IPL title win. However, the roadshow ended in the death of 11 fans on Wednesday, June 4, as well.

“It is very tragic what happened yesterday, and my heart goes out to the families of people who lost their loved ones. I hope in the future nothing like this will happen because I think we all are responsible citizens and we should take care of all this,” the Indian head coach remarked in the pre-match post conference.

Criticising the concepts of roadshows and victory marches following a win, Gautam Gambhir also suggested that such celebrations should be held behind closed doors as well.

“I think lives of people are far more important, and I will continue to say. We can be a little bit careful of not holding these kinds of roadshows and can probably have them closed doors or something like this in a stadium,” he said.
“When I used to play, I didn’t believe much in roadshows. I don’t believe in them today, and I don’t believe in them in the future. Winning is important, celebrations are important, but more important than that is the life of any person. So if we are not prepared, or if we cannot handle the crowd in that way, then might as well these roadshows should not take place,” Gautam Gambhir concluded.
