While others in the cricketing fraternity were firing off congratulatory messages for athletes winning medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Netherlands medium-fast bowler Logan van Beek did things a little differently—putting in a tinge of humour with a funny tweet. Instead of just joining the bandwagon, van Beek came up with his way of letting the world know how celebratory he felt about the biggest sporting event on the planet; it only proved lightness in his personality.
The wicket-keeper’s witty comment was in response to a tweet by Turkish social media influencer, Figen, who posted a video of Ukrainian rhythmic gymnast Taisiia Onofriichuk at the Olympics. She was spellbinding in her routine performed to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” with the hula hoop, matching steps with the audience.

Impressed with the display of the 16-year-old gymnast, van Beek did not waste his chance to praise her. But he did not stop there—he declared in an even more comic gesture that he was going to partake in the breakdancing event at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and, in a jesting attitude, cautioned fans to be ready for his participation in the event.
This is awesome… LA 2028 here I come! https://t.co/prlRAC1dwR

The banter of the Dutch cricketer did not stop there when a curious social media user asked him which country he was going to go on to represent at the Olympics because of his heritage from New Zealand and the Netherlands.

The Christchurch, New Zealand-born Van Beek had played cricket there until the Under-19 level before moving to the Netherlands in order to further his prospects in the game. To the question, he replied in a very sarcastic way, pulling legs on how complicated the user’s query was.
Question is for which country will you compete 👀

Cricketer Van Beek recently represented Surrey Jaguars in the 2024 Global T20 Canada. Although his team finished fifth out of the six franchises in the championship, he played quite well. He took at least one wicket in each of the four matches he played, underlining his skill and consistency on the field. Well, his sense of humor on Twitter and some fair displays of cricket have still made him one of the more unique characters in the sporting world.
