Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have received a timely boost with Indian pacer Akash Deep joining their squad ahead of their IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians on April 4 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. The 28-year-old speedster, who had been recovering from a back injury, is now fit and ready to contribute to the Rishabh Pant-led side’s campaign.

Deep’s arrival was officially announced by LSG’s social media team, sharing a video of his entry into the camp with the caption, “Akash Deep is in the house.” In the clip, Deep is seen stepping out of a white MUV, dressed in a beige shirt and light blue jeans, before being greeted warmly by his teammates.

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh welcomed him with applause and a broad smile, while South African power-hitter David Miller shook his hand as Deep reconnected with the squad. The right-arm pacer has been out of action since sustaining a back injury during the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. His last competitive game was in December 2024, and he missed LSG’s first three matches this season.

Deep was roped in by LSG for ₹8 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction but is yet to make his debut for the franchise. He previously played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), featuring in one match against the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024. Across two seasons with RCB (2022-24), Deep played eight matches, picking up seven wickets. In his overall T20 career, he has claimed 49 wickets in 42 matches.

His inclusion comes as a much-needed boost for LSG, who have been grappling with multiple injuries in their fast-bowling department. While Mayank Yadav remains sidelined due to a lumbar stress injury and a toe problem, Mohsin Khan has already been ruled out of IPL 2025 after suffering an ACL tear last December.

This has left Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan shouldering the majority of LSG’s pace workload. With only one win so far in IPL 2025, LSG will be eager to turn their season around. Deep’s arrival could provide the team with fresh energy as they prepare to take on the five-time champions Mumbai Indians in a crucial contest.
