In modern-day T20 cricket, variation is everything, and slower deliveries have become one of the most effective weapons for fast bowlers. With batters constantly looking to attack, especially in high-scoring leagues like the Indian Premier League 2026, a well-disguised slower ball can completely disrupt rhythm. That’s exactly what unfolded during the clash between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals, when Lungi Ngidi outfoxed Nicholas Pooran with a clever change of pace.

Lungi Ngidi bowled a brilliant spell for DC

Pooran, known for his explosive strokeplay, never quite got going in this innings. The left-hander was dismissed for just 8 off 8 balls, a crucial blow for LSG at a time when they were already under pressure. Ngidi, drawing on his vast international experience, read the situation perfectly. Instead of offering pace, he delivered a slower ball at around 112.4 kph, which completely deceived the batter.

Attempting to play through the off side, Pooran was caught in two minds. His bat came down early, but the lack of pace meant the ball sneaked past his defence and crashed into the stumps. It was a classic T20 dismissal — a batter undone not by speed, but by subtlety. The wicket left LSG reeling at 65/4, further deepening their troubles.

The Ekana surface in Lucknow offered some assistance to the bowlers, and Delhi Capitals made full use of it. Mitchell Marsh showed some resistance at the top, scoring a steady 35 off 28 balls, but lacked support from the rest of the batting unit. Big names like Rishabh Pant, Aiden Markram, and Ayush Badoni failed to make an impact, exposing LSG’s fragile middle order.

Delhi’s bowling unit delivered a complete performance. Alongside Ngidi, Mukesh Kumar bowled with discipline and played a key role in running out Pant early. Kuldeep Yadav added further pressure with a crucial wicket of Marsh, while T Natarajan chipped in by dismissing Badoni for a duck.

Within the first 10 overs, LSG had already lost five wickets, effectively taking the game away from them. The batting collapse continued, and the home side was eventually bowled out for 141 — a below-par total considering the batting firepower they possess. It was a clinical bowling display from Delhi Capitals, highlighted by Ngidi’s smart execution, proving once again that in T20 cricket, brains often outshine brute force.
