It was a record-breaking chase for the Kolkata Knight Riders, Man of the Match Chris Lynn emerged as a hero overnight. It wasn’t for the first time that he played an innings of such brutality. His heroics are well known down under. It was just that it came for the first time from his bat in the Indian Premier League.
Lynn had featured in three seasons of IPL previously. He had scored 89 runs in five matches with a highest of 45 (which came in 2014) before yesterday’s match.
Lynn, who usually bats in the middle order was sent to face the new ball last night. The tactics were perhaps clear. In a chase of 184, if anyone had to take the initial risks, it was Lynn. Against an average-looking Gujarat Lions bowling attack, Lynn was severe right from the word go. He ended up scoring 93* off 41 balls with the help of six fours and eight sixes. An ever-so-reliable Gautam Gambhir (76* off 48 balls) made sure that runs flew thick and quick form his bat as well. from Watch the full video of how he assaulted the Lions’ bowlers and how the Knight Riders celebrated their win:
