Australia batsman and Kings XI Punjab captain, Glenn Maxwell, is well known for his big hitting abilities on the cricket field around the world. Maxwell, 28, once again displayed his batting prowess to the cricketing fraternity. Being put in to bat by the opposition captain, Rohit Sharma, Maxwell joined Wriddhiman Saha in the middle in the sixth over when Martin Guptill was dismissed for 36 (18).
‘Waiting period’ seldom has a meaning for Maxwell, who started by scoring a boundary on the second ball that he faced. It was crucial for Punjab to carry forward the momentum laid down by Guptill and Saha and this was exactly what Maxwell did.
Maxwell made sure that Kins XI reached the 100-run mark in the eight over. He was severe on both the opposition spinners, namely Karn Sharma and Harbhajan Singh. In what was an innings where he did not care about his wicket and concentrated only on scoring quick runs, Maxwell ended up scoring 47 (21) with the help of two fours and five sixes. He was clean bowled by Jasprit Bumrah in the 11th over.
In 13 IPL matches this year, Maxwell has scored 310 runs at an average of 34.44 and a strike rate of 176.13. It is innings like these which define the forte of Maxwell’s batting. Overall, in 56 matches, he has scored 1,228 runs at an average of 25.58 and a strike rate of 165.05. Watch the full video of Maxwell’s 47 (21):
