Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of India’s upcoming ODI series against England due to a quadricep injury, dealing a setback to the team’s preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The star all-rounder was already absent from the ongoing three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, where India, led by Shubman Gill, secured an unassailable 2-0 lead with victories in the opening two matches.

Pandya remains one of India’s most valuable white-ball players, but recurring fitness concerns continue to be a challenge. With the team focused on building a strong core for the next ODI World Cup, the selectors and management are expected to adopt a cautious approach to his workload and recovery.

A fresh update on Pandya’s fitness was shared by Jagran News journalist Abhishek Tripathi, who revealed that the all-rounder will not be available for the England ODIs. The update also shed light on Virat Kohli’s fitness status ahead of the tour.

Taking to X, Tripathi stated: “Hardik Pandya is out of the ODI series in England due to injury. Virat Kohli’s fitness test will be held in England on June 22. After that, it will be known whether he will play in the ODI series against England or not.”

The development raises concerns for India, as the team could be without two of its most experienced match-winners for the important ODI assignment. While Pandya has already been ruled out, Kohli’s participation remains uncertain and will depend on the outcome of his fitness assessment.

With the ODI squad set to be finalised soon, India’s think tank will be closely monitoring Kohli’s recovery while also exploring backup options in the absence of Pandya. The England series is expected to play a key role in shaping India’s plans and combinations for the road to the 2027 ODI World Cup.
