India left-arm spinner Manav Suthar produced a remarkable performance for Warwickshire in their Division One County Championship clash against Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, entering the first-class record books with an extraordinary bowling spell. Suthar finished the match with wickets in both innings without conceding a single run. The rare achievement has been recorded by only one other bowler in first-class cricket history, with Suthar now sharing the record with England’s Tom Hayward.
Hayward achieved the feat for Leicestershire against Surrey at The Oval in 1895, claiming three wickets from just six deliveries. More than 130 years later, Suthar has matched that remarkable record, highlighting just how unusual his performance in Cardiff was. The 26-year-old made an immediate impact in Warwickshire’s first innings.
With the team’s seamers doing most of the damage, Suthar was introduced late and required only three deliveries to dismiss Glamorgan’s No. 11 batter Mir Hamza. His second-innings contribution was even more impressive. Suthar entered the attack during the 24th over and began with a maiden. In his following over, he produced two wickets in four deliveries, bowling both Chris Cooke and Jamie McIlroy.

Adding to the precision of his performance, all three of Suthar’s wickets in the match came through bowled dismissals. He conceded no runs while creating decisive breakthroughs at crucial moments.

The spinner announced himself on the international stage during his Test debut against Afghanistan, taking seven wickets in the match, including a six-wicket haul. He then carried that form into India’s two-Test series against Sri Lanka, claiming 16 wickets as India secured a 1-0 series victory.

Suthar has also been highly effective for Warwickshire in the County Championship. He has collected 21 wickets across eight innings this season, including a five-wicket haul against Somerset. His performances across domestic and international cricket underline his growing reputation as one of India’s promising left-arm spinners.
Warwickshire currently occupy second place in Division One with 184 points from 12 matches. With the title race entering its decisive stage, Suthar is expected to feature in their final two fixtures against Essex and Leicestershire.
