Rajasthan’s new prodigy, Manav Suthar made headlines. Father Jagdish desired the youngster to make bowlers around the world panic. But little did he know that he would turn out into a spin specialist while admitting his son to a coaching programme in the Sriganganagar district as well. Suthar is playing Duleep Trophy 2024 for India C and picked up seven scalps in the second innings. He bowled 19.1 overs, giving away 49 runs with seven maidens.
“To get wickets, I’d have to contain them first. That’s what I did. After the first innings, I figured that I’d have to slow down a bit to get some turn, which would be handy with the bounce on offer. Each pitch is different, so how you use your skillset is what matters,” said Suthar as quoted by Indian Express.
In the first innings, India C pacers Anshul Kamboj, Vijaykumar Vyshak and Himanshu Chauhan picked up seven wickets. The two spinners in the side scalped one wicket each as well.
“Just because seamers were getting wickets, I can’t say there isn’t much help for spinners. So I was backing my skillset, and believed I could do it here,” the bowling all-rounder continued.
The left-arm spinner further shared that he took a leaflet out of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja’s spin chronicles and focused on getting help with the seam rather than the pitch itself as well. He even dismantled the opposition lower order consisting of Srikar Bharat and Axar Patel as well.
“In the time I’ve spent watching Ashwin and Jaddu bhai, I’ve noticed how they vary their seam position, trajectory and speed to adjust to different pitches,” Manav Suthar concluded.
