Manoj Tiwary, the talented Indian cricketer, has announced his retirement from the game. Tiwary, who made his debut for India in 2008, had a roller-coaster journey in the cricketing world, battling injuries and limited opportunities. One of his most memorable innings came in 2011 against the West Indies, where he scored a brilliant century in Chennai, showcasing immense determination by playing through cramps. Surprisingly, despite his heroics, he was left on the bench for 14 matches following that performance.
The 37-year-old batsman recently led Bengal to the finals of the Ranji Trophy, which many thought might be his last outing. However, on August 3, he took to his social media handles to formally bid adieu to the sport that had given him so much.
In his heartfelt message, Tiwary expressed his gratitude to cricket, a game that had been by his side during challenging times. He thanked everyone who played a part in his cricketing journey, from coaches who nurtured him since childhood to his family who encouraged him to pursue his passion. He especially acknowledged his father figure-like coach, Manabendra Ghosh, who played a crucial role in his career. Tiwary’s wife, Susmita, received special praise for her unwavering support throughout his ups and downs.

Manoj Tiwary represented India in 12 ODIs, scoring 287 runs at an average of 26.07 and claiming five wickets. He also featured in three T20Is, with one innings to his name, scoring 15 runs. However, his real prowess shone in first-class cricket, where he amassed a staggering 9908 runs in 141 matches at an average of 48.56, with a highest score of 303*.

In List A cricket, Tiwary displayed consistency, scoring 5581 runs in 169 games at an average of 42.28. His crowning achievement came in 2012 when he won the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders, where he played a pivotal role in their victory.
