South Africa has finally announced the replacement for the injured all-rounder, Dwaine Pretorius by including left-arm seamer Marco Jansen in the squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Jansen was initially named in the traveling reserves but Pretorius’ thumb injury handed him a promotion to the main squad.

Meanwhile, Lizaad Williams has been called up to the traveling reserves to replace Jansen. Confirming the same, in their tweet, Cricket South Africa wrote, “Marco Jansen has been included in the #Proteas 15-man #T20WorldCup squad. He replaces the injured Dwaine Pretorius. Lizaad Williams has been called up to replace Jansen amongst the travelling reserves.”

Notably, Dwaine Pretorius was a part of the recently concluded T20I series against India where he played the final T20I of the three-match series and did well with the ball, bowling a spell of 3/26. South Africa won that match by 49 runs. Following the completion of the T20I series, he was meant to play in the ODI series against India as well but was ruled out due to the injury.

South Africa has been touted as favorites ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup but they will play the tournament without one of their key all-rounders Dwaine Pretorious who is set to miss out on the tournament. Pretorious recently fractured his left thumb in the third T20I against India, which helped Marco Jansen to replace him for the ODI leg of the tour.

The left-arm fast bowler will also take his place in the T20 World Cup obtaining a promotion from his spot in the traveling reserves. Jansen has been impressive in Test cricket scalping 37 wickets from seven Tests since his debut.

Marco Jansen will be expecting to replicate the same kind of success in T20Is and the World Cup might be the right platform for him to make it big.  Wayne Parnell, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, and Lungi Ngidi are the other pacers apart from Jansen who can contribute to the team. The team will start its campaign on October 24 against one of the qualifying teams from the first round.
