Marcus Stoinis turned on the fireworks in spectacular fashion during the death overs, hammering Mohammed Shami for four consecutive sixes in the final over, as Punjab Kings posted a mammoth 245/6 against SunRisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. It was a brutal display of power-hitting from the Australian all-rounder, who remained unbeaten on 34 off just 11 balls, including four towering sixes and a boundary.

Shami’s final over proved to be a nightmare, as the veteran pacer leaked 75 runs in his four-over spell—the second-worst bowling figures in IPL history. Only the Rajasthan Royals’ disastrous 76-run spell against the same opposition earlier this season tops the unwanted list.

Despite SunRisers Hyderabad clawing back with wickets in the middle overs, Shami’s expensive final over undid their hard work, pushing Punjab Kings to their second-highest IPL total. Captain Shreyas Iyer played a captain’s knock, blasting 82 off just 36 balls, with 6 sixes and 6 fours, laying the platform for the final onslaught.

Openers Priyansh Arya (36) and Prabhsimran Singh (42) gave their team the start they needed, stitching a fluent partnership at the top. Speaking during the mid-innings break, Stoinis said, “Nice to make a contribution, a little cameo from me there. There was a bit of spin and bounce. It’s a very good score—it all depends now on how we start and finish in the powerplay.”

For SRH, Harshal Patel was the lone bright spot with the ball, picking up 4 wickets including key dismissals of Arya, Iyer, Shashank Singh, and Glenn Maxwell.

Earlier, Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision that has clearly paid off, leaving SRH with a mountain to climb in the second half.
