South African legend Mark Boucher has revealed the four young cricketers he believes are destined for greatness in the coming years. The former wicketkeeper-batter, now 48, named two Indians—Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal—and two South Africans—Tristan Stubbs and Dewald Brevis—as potential future stars. Interestingly, Boucher left out India’s red-hot Test captain Shubman Gill, despite the youngster’s stellar recent form.

Gill has been on an extraordinary run in the ongoing England series. In just his first two matches as Test captain, he has racked up 585 runs, including multiple centuries. His dominant performances have propelled him 15 spots up the ICC Test rankings to No. 6 as of July 9.
Appearing on ESPN Cricinfo’s 25 Questions show, Mark Boucher was asked to name three youngsters with the potential to be future stars. He responded, “I’ll give you four—Tilak Varma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tristan Stubbs, and Dewald Brevis.”

All four have emerged from the U-19 World Cup circuit and have since made their international debuts. Yashasvi Jaiswal is a regular across India’s Test and T20I squads, while Tilak Varma has cemented his place in the T20I side. Stubbs and Brevis, meanwhile, have become mainstays in South Africa’s setup.

In the same segment, Mark Boucher also picked Suryakumar Yadav, Heinrich Klaasen, and Sachin Tendulkar when asked to name three players he’d pick for his all-time T20 XI.
When asked about the best wicketkeepers after his era, Boucher gave MS Dhoni the nod for work up to the stumps, and Quinton de Kock for his skills from behind.
