Getting a rare opportunity to feature in the playing XI for Gujarat Titans, Matthew Wade couldn’t do much with the bat as he departed for a 13-ball 16 to countryman Glenn Maxwell on Thursday. The dismissal remained a debatable one, with many believing that the DRS technology erred in that specific instance.

Wade was convinced that he is not out after the on-field umpire had given the decision in the bowling team’s favor. He went on to use DRS but was pretty furious seeing the umpire’s decision being upheld by the third umpire. After reaching the dressing room, the wicket-keeper batsman smashed his helmet on the floor and uttered a few words in extreme frustration.

The video of the incident went viral on social media in no time. Acting upon the incident, even the match referee decided to reprimand the Aussie for his outburst. The IPL issued a statement after the match, confirming that Wade has been found guilty of breaching the league’s Code of Conduct.

“Matthew Wade from Gujarat Titans has been reprimanded for breaching the TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Mr Wade admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding,” the release read.

Even Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya had admitted that the UltraEdge seemed to have been at fault in the LBW decision involving Wade.

“I think it was slightly there (spike) in UltraEdge. From the big screen, it was not visible, but you can’t fault it. If technology is not helping, then I don’t know who’s going to help. Obviously, it’s nothing personal from anybody, but technology sometimes helps, sometimes it does not. This time, it did not help but most of the time it has worked and kind of overturned decisions. Most of the times, the right decision has been taken,” he had said.

The match resulted in an 8-wicket defeat for the Titans. However, it was an inconsequential match from their point of view, with a top-2 position already secured.
