Agarwal’s sublime knock was a sharp turnaround from a shaky start to his maiden county stint. In his first three innings for Yorkshire, he registered two ducks and 26 runs, having signed a three-match deal earlier this month. On debut against Somerset at Taunton, he fell for a golden duck, followed by 26 off 87 against Sussex, and another three-ball duck in the second innings.

Against Durham, Agarwal walked in at 1/1 after Yorkshire’s opener Finlay Bean fell early. Partnering with Adam Lyth, the duo shared a 127-run second-wicket stand. Both reached half-centuries before Lyth was dismissed for 69. Yorkshire then lost James Wharton (7) and skipper Jonny Bairstow (0) in quick succession, but Agarwal remained unbeaten and reached his century with a six, showcasing his vast experience and composure.

The 34-year-old Agarwal made his India debut during the 2018-19 Australia tour and has played 21 Tests, scoring 1,448 runs at an average of 41.33, including four centuries and six half-centuries, with a personal best of 243. He has also featured in five ODIs, scoring 86 runs at an average of 17.20.

Though this is Agarwal’s first extended county stint in England, he has toured the country several times, including India’s 2021-22 tour and the ICC World Test Championship final in June 2023. With over 8,000 runs in first-class cricket, Agarwal’s innings for Yorkshire highlights his adaptability, skill, and enduring class in varying conditions.

This performance not only boosts Yorkshire’s campaign but also reinforces Agarwal’s credentials as one of India’s dependable top-order batsmen in international and domestic cricket alike.
