Indian cricketer Mayank Agarwal faced a serious health scare while on a flight to Surat from Agartala. The captain of the Karnataka Ranji Trophy team, leading them in the ongoing 2023–24 season, was rushed to the hospital after complaining of a burning sensation in his mouth and throat.
Mayank Agarwal, aged 32, is currently admitted to the ICU at ILS Hospital in Agartala, though reports suggest he is out of immediate danger. The alarming incident occurred immediately after Mayank drank from a bottle suspected to contain a poisonous substance. Alongside him, the team manager Ramesh was also deboarded from the plane.

The Karnataka captain had recently led his team to a 29-run victory over Tripura in the Ranji Trophy at Maharaj Bir Bikram Stadium in Agartala. Mayank Agarwal has been in exceptional form during the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, amassing 460 runs in four matches with an average of 44.28, including two centuries.

His remarkable performance in the 2022–23 season made him the leading run-scorer in India’s premier first-class competition. Karnataka currently holds the second position in Group C of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group, with 15 points in four games, having won two matches and lost one.
Despite the unsettling incident, Mayank Agarwal’s recovery will be crucial for Karnataka as they prepare to face Railways in their next match at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat on February 2.

The right-handed batsman has represented India in 21 Test matches since his debut in 2018, accumulating 1488 runs at an average of 41.3, including four centuries. His last appearance for the national team was in a Test match against Sri Lanka in March 2022. Additionally, Mayank Agarwal is part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the 2024 season, having joined them in 2023. He had previously captained the Punjab Kings in the 2022 IPL season.
