Promising Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav, who impressed the entire country with his raw pace during the 2023 Indian Premier League season, has opened up about his long road to recovery after a series of injuries stalled his early career progress. At just 23, Mayank has already faced more setbacks than many seasoned cricketers, but his determination to return stronger remains unwavering.

After undergoing surgery followed by an extensive rehabilitation program at the Centre of Excellence in Bangalore, Mayank now feels confident about his comeback.

“My recovery is going pretty well. I’ve started bowling again, and everything is on track,” he said, sounding upbeat about his progress. The young quarterback emphasised how much work he has put into rebuilding his fitness and ensuring he is ready to contribute from the very start of the upcoming season. “I’ll be available from day one and hope to make an impact right away,” he added.

Lucknow Super Giants reaffirmed their faith in Mayank Yadav by retaining him ahead of the 2026 IPL mini-auction, a gesture he deeply appreciates. “It means a lot. Despite all my injuries over the last two to three seasons, LSG has continued to support me. The team, the owner—they’ve always backed me,” he said. He also credited franchise owner Dr. Sanjiv Goenka for his constant encouragement, calling him a pillar of support.

The upcoming season could see Mayank sharing the new ball with Mohammed Shami, recently traded to LSG for ₹10 crore.

“Shami Bhai was with me at the NCA rehab. I’ve known him for about 1.5 years. Bowling alongside him will be exciting,” Mayank Yadav shared. His stint at the CoE also allowed him to observe and learn from senior pros like Jasprit Bumrah. “Bumrah Bhaiyya shared a lot with me. I learned to understand my body better and take care of it,” he said.

Despite only six IPL appearances and three T20Is for India so far, Mayank has a clear goal: stay fit and play consistently. “All I want is to play more matches. That’s what I’ve missed the most in the last two years,” he reflected. Looking ahead, Mayank hopes to regain rhythm before the next IPL season. “Playing a few games before the IPL will help my body. I’m really looking forward to it,” he concluded.
