Mayank Yadav, a gifted young pacer, enjoyed an eventful and shortest stint in this year’s IPL while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants. In just four matches, the 22-year-old stunned everyone with his scorching pace-always over 150 kmph and seven scalps at a brilliant economy rate of 6.98. Marking his debut against Punjab Kings, in which he picked up a three-wicket haul, labelled him as one of the brightest upcoming stars of Indian pace bowling.
It was an unfortunate lower abdominal strain that cut his campaign short, after which he hasn’t played a single competitive game. The BCCI, seeing his potential, has kept a close watch on the recuperation and development of Yadav.
Currently, he is at the NCA in Bengaluru undergoing an extensive rehabilitation program. But the BCCI officials thought Yadav was not yet ready to play for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, scheduled to start from September 5. Thus, long-term concern over his fitness saw the Delhi-born cricketer miss out on the squad for the tournament.

Devendra Sharma, Mayank Yadav’s coach at the posh Sonnet Club, said: “I just spoke to him and Yadav told me that he bowls in the morning session and then does his rehab work. “Yadav has been told to avoid red-ball cricket for some time as that puts too much strain on his body, ” he said.
“Mayank bowls close to eight to ten overs a day at the nets,” Sharma said in an interaction with Times of India. “Once I asked him why he wasn’t picked in the Duleep Trophy, he said he has been told to stick only to white-ball cricket for the time being since his body is not yet ready to handle the load of red-ball cricket.”
