Mayank Yadav, the young and promising pacer, quickly rose to prominence with his fiery pace and knack for taking wickets while representing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. However, his journey faced an unexpected hurdle when he suffered an injury midway through the tournament, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.
Undeterred, Mayank made a stunning return to professional cricket by earning his international debut in a T20I against Bangladesh in October last year. In his brief international career, Mayank has showcased his potential by playing three T20Is and claiming four wickets.
His performances had raised expectations for his inclusion in the upcoming T20I series against England, set to begin on January 22 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce the squad, reports suggest that Mayank might miss the series due to a recurring back injury.

“He’s suffering from a back injury and is unlikely to be fit for the England series. He hasn’t even been named amongst the probables for Delhi’s first Ranji match of the second leg against Saurashtra from January 23,” a BCCI source revealed to TOI.

Mayank left a lasting impression during his debut T20I, becoming only the third bowler after Ajit Agarkar and Arshdeep Singh to deliver a maiden over in his first game. In IPL 2024, despite his limited appearances, he proved his mettle by taking seven wickets in four matches at an impressive average of 12.14 and an economy rate of 6.98.
Reflecting on his international debut, Mayank Yadv said, “I was excited, but to be honest, I was a little more nervous because I was making a comeback almost 3-4 months after my injury. I hadn’t had many opportunities to play competitive cricket, and then suddenly got the chance to make my international debut. So, I was a bit nervous.”
