Australia and England are set to commemorate cricket’s 150-year history with a special one-off day-night Test at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in 2027. The announcement made exactly two years ahead of the match, marks yet another historic milestone at a venue that hosted the first-ever Test in 1877 and the Centenary Test in 1977.

Scheduled to take place from March 11-15, 2027, the Test will be played under lights with a pink ball, adding a modern touch to this historic event. Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg expressed excitement about the occasion, highlighting the significance of celebrating the game’s evolution while honouring its deep-rooted legacy.

“The 150th Anniversary Test at the MCG will be one of the great cricketing events. Playing under lights is a fantastic way to showcase both the game’s rich history and how Test cricket continues to evolve,” Greenberg said. “The Centenary Test in 1977 gave us unforgettable moments—David Hookes smashing five consecutive boundaries off Tony Greig, Rick McCosker bravely batting with a broken jaw, and Derek Randall’s gritty century. I’m sure this Test will create its own iconic memories.”
