Just when it seemed like Pakistan had taken the command of the second Test against Bangladesh on Day 2, an early wicket in the very first over of the game saw the hosts behind the eight-ball. But it was Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who struck again for Bangladesh in the third over of the second session, once again taking the momentum away from the hosts.

Shan Masood perished after his fifty

Shan Masood was motoring along nicely on 57 off 68 deliveries, solid as a rock in the crease, dependent mostly on strike rotation with only two boundaries to his name. It was an extremely composed knock that brought up his 10th fifty in the format.

However, a good-length delivery, pitching on the middle-leg stump channel, seemed to be drifting towards his pads. Masood, who had already made his mind up to tuck it away for a single, was caught unawares as the ball turned just enough to miss his bat and catch him in line with the stumps.

Masood opted for a DRS in a jiffy, but the nonstriker, Saim Ayub, seemed anything but convinced. Neither was Masood, for that matter, soon after. He still opted for the review, and it didn’t go his way. The UltraEdge didn’t show any Fonzie with the bat, and the ball-tracking system threw up three reds, which sealed his fate.

All that he could do was to take a long disappointed walk to the pavilion. Further inroads into the Bangladesh camp were made as the session wore on. Well-set Saim Ayub got himself stumped after a very indiscreet attempt to clear the infield by dancing down the track.

The back-of-a-length delivery around the fifth stump line cramped Saud Shakeel for space as he chopped the ball onto the stumps. Bangladesh bowlers managed to make the most of their momentum, making things quite uncomfortable for Pakistan in the second session.
