Former Australian cricketer Michael Clarke recently made headlines, not for the achievement related to the field of cricket, but for something far removed from the sport itself. Separated from his wife and former Australian model Kyly Clarke after seven years of marriage, Clarke was spotted with Arabella Sherborne as he took out his Harley Davidson to spin once. The photograph in question has been clicked just after lunch at a Japanese restaurant named Raw Bar on Tuesday.

It would be interesting to note that Clarke himself had not seen the front-page photo until his colleagues drew his attention to it during Sky Sports Radio’s Big Sports Breakfast on Wednesday morning. “Did anyone get murdered yesterday? Let’s put a picture of me going for a motorbike ride – that’s way more important. I literally couldn’t believe it when you showed me that this morning. Guys, get your priorities right,” Michael Clarke laughed off, trying to bring some merriment into the situation.

But it didn’t stop there. It became a full-blown debate between Clarke and his fellow co-host on the radio show, Dean Ritchie of The Daily Telegraph. He claimed that his name should no longer be attached to any headlines regarding Australian cricket and, tongue in cheek, suggested the media shift their focus to the current captain, Pat Cummins.

“On a serious note, how does that make the front page? You can’t keep holding on to ‘captain of Australia.’ I’m not; I retired 10 years ago. Go get a picture of Pat Cummins doing his gardening or fishing,” Michael Clarke said.

He continued, a mix of frustration and humor in his tone: “I joke about this stuff more than anyone, but it’s called having a personal life. There got to be something more important than me riding a motorbike. I know it sells, but the front page of Australia’s biggest paper? Give me a break.”
