Former Australia batter Michael Hussey will join the England men’s cricket team as a coaching consultant for the upcoming mega event – T20 World Cup in Australia this year. Along with Hussey, former England bowling coach David Saker will also join the team as a consultant. Both Michael Hussey and David Saker will help Matthew Mott as England looks to win the T20 World Cup trophy in Australia.
England won the 2010 T20 World Cup under Paul Collingwood’s leadership. However, England missed out on an opportunity to complete the World Cup double as they were knocked out in the semi-finals by New Zealand in 2021 in the UAE as well.
“England Men’s white-ball Head Coach Matthew Mott has enlisted the support of former England bowling coach David Saker and Chennai Super Kings batting coach and former Australian international Michael Hussey for the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia in October and November,” England Cricket said in a statement on Wednesday, September 14.
David Saker, who worked as bowling coach of England from 2010 to 2015 as well, will join the Mott-led coaching staff as early as the tour of Pakistan, which will take place from September 20 to October 2. On the other hand, Hussey, who coached in T20 leagues including the Indian Premier League, will join the England team directly for the World Cup as well.
England announced their T20 World Cup squad which will be captained by Jos Buttler. The star wicketkeeper-batter is hoping to be fit in time for his side for the upcoming T20 World Cup after he missed The Hundred due to a calf injury as well.
