Star Indian batter Rinku Singh has been a prominent figure in the cricketing world, especially noted for his performances with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2023. Despite his impressive track record, he was surprisingly omitted from India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. Rinku’s journey has been marked by remarkable feats, having played 15 T20Is and accumulated 356 runs at an average of 89, with a striking rate of 176.24. His prowess in the format is undeniable.
However, Rinku’s form in the IPL 2024 has not mirrored his previous successes. He has managed to score only 168 runs in 13 games, averaging 18.67, a stark contrast to his earlier performance. His lack of game time in the early stages of the tournament has been a topic of discussion. When he did get the opportunity to play, he struggled to make a significant impact, a point highlighted by former England batter Michael Vaughan.

Vaughan remarked on Rinku’s challenges, stating, “He’s had opportunities and came in quite early on some occasions, but couldn’t maximize that chance. He’s a terrific player who can strike the ball well. The expectations are high for him now. In T20s, you have to take so many risks that occasionally, you have a run of games where things don’t go your way.”
Vaughan further elaborated on the nature of T20 cricket, explaining that the aggressive mindset required often leads to inconsistent performances. “You’re talking about trying to hit it out of the ground regularly, and sometimes you get caught. As long as his mindset is to be aggressive – he’s a better player that way – he will be absolutely fine,” Michael Vaughan added.
Reflecting on Rinku Singh’s current lean phase, Michael Vaughan expressed confidence that it would be short-lived. He emphasized that Rinku’s potential and talent would soon shine through again.

“I’ve seen him in the last few years, where he will just explode. He averages 80 for India because he stays not out at the end, he’s a quality player. He’s not a flash in the pan. I don’t think in two years, we will be saying, ‘Where’s Rinku Singh gone? He’s disappeared.’ He’s not the player we thought he was,” Vaughan concluded.
Rinku Singh’s journey is a testament to the highs and lows of professional cricket. While his recent form has been a concern, the belief in his abilities remains strong among experts and fans alike. As he navigates through this challenging phase, the cricketing world watches with anticipation for his inevitable return to form.
