The Test at Old Trafford was canceled barely a couple of hours before its scheduled start on Friday after India failed to field a team following a Covid-19 case in their camp. Former English skipper, Michael Vaughan has said that the Manchester Test between India and England has been canceled because players were petrified of catching covid and missing the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 phase 2.
In his column for the Telegraph, Michael Vaughan wrote, “Let’s be very honest, this is all about money and the IPL. The Test has been canceled because players were petrified of catching Covid and missing the IPL. In a week or so we will be watching the IPL and the players will be running around smiling and happy. But they should have trusted the PCR tests.”

He further added, “We know a lot about this virus now. We know how to manage and handle it better. Players are double vaccinated and biosecurity can be raised very quickly.”
Michael Vaughan also said that he finds it hard to believe that India has found it tough to find 11 players for the Old Trafford Test against England.

Former English skipper wrote: “The game of cricket needed this Test match. The series was brilliantly poised. It just does not sit comfortably that a Test match can be canceled 90 minutes before the toss. It is completely disrespectful towards the paying public.”
In one of his tweets, Michael Vaughan wrote: “IPL teams chartering planes .. 6 days quarantining required in the UAE .. 7 days till the tournament starts !!!! Don’t tell me the Test was canceled for any other reason but the IPL ..”

India will return to England in July to play three Twenty20 matches and as many ODIs. It was a rather unexpected end to a thrilling series lit up by the sublime batting of England captain Joe Root, who smashed three centuries in the first three matches, and India’s excellent seam bowling, spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah.
