Former England captain Michael Vaughan calls for stricter penalties for slow over-rates in Test cricket, suggesting a penalty of 20 runs per over instead of fines. After Australia’s victory in the World Test Championship Final against India, where both teams were fined for slow over-rates, Vaughan took to Twitter to express his views.
“Fines don’t work. So Runs awarded to the Batting team at the end of the day’s play could be the only way. 20 runs per over,” Michael Vaughan wrote in his latest tweet.

According to the ICC’s statement, India fell five overs short of the target, taking time allowances into consideration, while Australia was four overs short. The ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel states that players are fined 20 percent of their match fee for each over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time.
In addition to the team fines, Indian opening batsman Shubman Gill was also penalized by the ICC. He was fined 15 percent of his match fee for criticizing a decision in India’s second innings during the WTC Final.
