England head coach Chris Silverwood had come in defense of their rotation policy after the loss in the second Test in Chennai, but former skipper Michael Vaughan has immensely criticized the team’s selection for the ongoing series against India. Jos Buttler played the first Test and then he returned back to England while all-rounder Moeen Ali did the same after playing the second game. Earlier, Jonny Bairstow was rested for the first two Tests while the veteran fast bowler, James Anderson missed the second game even after England managed to win the opening game by 227 runs.

However, Vaughan reckons that England shouldn’t have rotated players against the ”best team in the world”. His remarks came during the ongoing pink-ball Test as England succukbed to the Indian spinners on the opening day of the Test.

Tweeting about the same, Michael Vaughan wrote: “England have treated selection for this series like premier league teams treat the early stages of the FA Cup rounds … #INDvENG Against the best team in the world !!!!!!!”

Axar Patel claimed a career-best 6-38 as he and spin colleague Ravichandran Ashwin helped the hosts to bundle out the visitors for 112 on an opening day of the Ahmedabad Test.
Playing his 100th test, seamer Ishant Sharma had Dom Sibley caught in the slip in the third over before the Indian spinners wreaked havoc. The Indian skipper, Virat Kohli introduced spin as early as in the seventh over and Patel trapped Jonny Bairstow lbw for naught with his first delivery.

Before the partnership between Crawley and Root could flourish, R Ashwin intervened as he dismissed the England captain lbw for 17. Root reviewed the decision but could not prolong his innings. It was a sense of deja vu for England who was dismissed for 58 in their previous pink-ball test in New Zealand three years ago.
