Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav endured another disappointing outing in the ongoing five-match T20I series against England. In the third T20I in Rajkot, he was dismissed for a seven-ball 14 as India fell 26 runs short of the target, marking their first loss of the series. His form has been under scrutiny, with questions being raised about his shot selection and approach in crucial chases.

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan weighed in on Suryakumar’s struggles, explaining what it truly means to be “aggressive” in the T20 format. He pointed out that India’s captain has not made significant contributions with the bat recently and needs to rethink his approach.
“When you talk about being aggressive, it’s about choosing the right ball to attack. You can’t just go after every single delivery,” Michael Vaughan said on Cricbuzz Live.

He added, “India are world champions for a reason, but they need their best players in form. The only way to regain form is by spending time in the middle. Right now, Suryakumar is playing a few good shots, and before you know it, he’s back in the dugout without making much of an impact.”

Vaughan also felt that Suryakumar should have adapted better to the match situation rather than sticking to his usual ultra-aggressive style.
“If ever there was a time for him to shift gears from fifth to third and give himself a chance to settle in, it was now. They weren’t chasing a massive 210-220 total. The target was achievable with smart batting,” he added.

India fell short in their chase of 172, managing only 145 in their 20 overs. Hardik Pandya was the top scorer with a 35-ball 40, while Abhishek Sharma was the only other batter to cross 20 runs.
England, on the other hand, staged a strong comeback after a middle-order collapse threatened to derail their innings. They managed to post 171, and their bowlers delivered a disciplined performance to secure a crucial victory and keep the series alive.
