Rajasthan Royals failed to win their first match against Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday and after the defeat, former England captain Michael Vaughan has raised question over the tactics. The veteran player turned famous commentator, who is pretty vocal on social media with his views on cricket, was not happy with the way they used England’s experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler.

Rajasthan Royals opened their 2021 IPL season under their new skipper Sanju Samson who also kept the wickets in the game. Buttler, on the other hand, who was featured in the playing XI, wasn’t chosen for that despite he has a lot more experience of keeping on the international stage.

And the decision to keep Samson behind the stumps ahead of Jos Buttler didn’t go down well with Vaughan and as per him, Buttler should have been preferred for his immense experience. He took to Twitter and shared this while tagging the Royals in his tweet. Vaughan tweeted, “Having @josbuttler behind the stumps for his tactical experience is crucial … Why isn’t he keeping @rajasthanroyals !????”

However, not only this as he once again showed his disappointment when Jos Buttler wasn’t given the opening slot. The Rajasthan based franchise decided to open their innings with Ben Stokes and Manan Vohra. While Buttler used to open in 2018 for the Royals, his success as an opener helped him get promoted in the England T20I side as well.

Vaughan wrote on Twitter, “And now @josbuttler doesn’t Open !!!!!!!!!! What are you thinking @rajasthanroyals !!!!! #IPL.”

However, Buttler opened the innings for the Royals in the 2019 season also, which helped him to do well too. He even did that in the 2020 season as well, but later, he was demoted to the middle order, where he scored too towards the latter half of the season as well.

Rajasthan will next play against Delhi Capitals on Thursday, April 15.
