Former England cricketers Michael Vaughan and Simon Doull opened up on MS Dhoni’s dropped catch in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 game between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday (7th April). However, MS Dhoni is arguably one of the best keepers in the game of cricket. Even at the age of 42, the former Chennai Super Kings is giving his best effort behind the wickets and there are hardly times when he misses something with the gloves.

Notably, this was the case in Chennai Super Kings’ recent game against Kolkata Knight Riders. MS Dhoni failed to grab a simple catch as he dropped Andre Russell. It was during the 18th over of the game, when the batter got a thick outside edge on a delivery from Mustafizur Rahman at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and Dhoni couldn’t grab it.
However, this incident left everyone surprised and the commentator said: “Even sound effects could not produce so much silence.”
During the post-match analysis on Cricbuzz, Michael Vaughan and Simon Doull both talked about the catch. The former England cricketer pointed out that no CSK player had any issue because it was MS Dhoni who dropped the catch. He stated: “MS Dhoni dropped quite a simple catch with one hand and the cameras went straight onto most of the CSK team. Because it was MS Dhoni, most of them were like – “That’s fine”.
In reply, Simon Doull also shared that he would’ve loved to see the bowler giving a reaction on that. He added: “Nobody said a word. I would love to see the bowler give a reaction (makes animated gestures).”

Michael Vaughan also stated that the bowler wanted to react but when he saw MS Dhoni he stayed silent as well. He stated: “You could see that he wanted to. He went for it and then he thought – Oh, it is MS Dhoni.”
However, Chennai Super Kings batter Ruturaj Gaikwad played a key knock of 67 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders in the game. He took the team to the finish line and made sure that he returned to form, having registered a series of low scores under his belt. Meanwhile, Eoin Morgan, who was part of the Jio Cinema commentary panel, said that this innings would give confidence to Ruturaj Gaikwad going ahead into the tournament.
He added, “This inning (67 vs KKR) will build a huge amount of belief and confidence for him (Gaikwad) in his game. Playing an innings like this, early in the tournament will give him a lot of reassurance on his decision-making and pass on a message to the team.”
Chennai Super Kings will next play against Mumbai Indians on Sunday (14th April) as well.
