Former English captain Michael Vaughan has slammed the English all-rounder Ben Stokes, who missed the second Test of ongoing five-match Test series at Lord’s due to facing a trial for involving in a brawl outside a Bristol nightclub in last September.

The 27-year-old English all-rounder has been added to the squad for the upcoming third Test at Trent Bridge (Nottingham), starting from this Saturday (August 18), after he has been found not guilty in that brawl incident in the latest verdict at Bristol Crown Court.

Former English skipper Vaughan believes Stokes doesn’t deserve any reception for his comeback as his work was not heroic.

Vaughan told BBC, “He has brought the game into disrepute. Knowing the England cricket fans as I do, they will give him a reception. I don’t think he deserves that. He’s certainly not a hero, as some have portrayed him to be.”

The former English captain believes that the star English all-rounder owes an apology to the fans as most of the non-cricket fans are not seeing him in a great way.

Vaughan said, “I do think he owes many an apology. The cricketing fans around Ben will cheer him and love him. But most away from cricket don’t see him in a great light at all. He has to win back quite a lot of people in terms of the perception of what he is.”

Vaughan can’t believe that Stokes has decided to be available for the upcoming third Test in a short period of time as the latest verdict has been out on this Tuesday (August 14).

Talking about that, Vaughan said, “I can’t get my head around why he wouldn’t want to take a little bit of time off – even if England wanted him. He’s just gone through eight days in crown court. I thought he might have wanted to take a bit of a breather from the game – to just step back, assess what’s gone on and be close to his family. They’re the ones who have been put through a hell of a lot over the last 10 months.”
